@Chris,
Well, in principle you can do that, but it's really a complex, and not that easy as changing size of the images. Also, there are some (not much actually) themes that uses a horizontal and bottom placed sidebar, just as you want it.

I figured out how to remove the border - there is an 'advanced' tab on the image handler, and if you type '0' into the border field, the border is suppressed.

I do have a more complex question. I'm really liking this theme because of the way it handles images. What I don't like so much is something that almost all themes do, and that is, dedicate space on the right to the 'menu' (home, navigation, etc). Once you scroll down half a page or so, you end up with a lot of 'white space' on the right. How easy would it be to convert the menu to something that sits at the bottom of the page, 'in line' with the main body of the page (rather than a sidebar)?

Perfect! thanks. I am carefully sizing and optimizing my images outside of wordpress, so these parameters don't apply to my images (but I will also try using this method as it seems very convenient).

Another question; some of my images are presented with a small gray border around them. Others are not. Modifying the alignment seems to have removed this for some but not all images.

Anyway - I love the theme and will continue to use it.

There are a few ways for adding images in your posts. The size parameters under the "Media" settings concerns only the case where you insert images via your WordPress system (in the post editing screen: "Upload/Insert" -> "Add an Image").

When going to insert an image, you'll see some options. By default there are four sizes for the image: Thumbnail, Medium, Large, Full size.
I hope you have an idea what "Thumbnail" is, and is used for. "Full size" is the original image uploaded by you. It is not resized.
"Medium" and "Large" are defined by you, in order to fit your needs. When you upload an image, the system will automatically resize it into 3 different sizes: Thumbnail, Medium, and Large. This is just for your convenience, so you don't need to do all that stuff (resizing, saving, uploading) by hand. Of course, if the original uploaded image is smaller than the set value of any of these parameters, it won't be resized and will be unavailable. As example, if "Large size" is limited to 800px, and you upload an image sized 700x400px, then "Large" size will become unavailable in the "Add an Image" screen.

Also, here you can find some useful information:

Thanks for the input - I will play tonight. Can you give me some insight into the purpose/use of the 'settings' / 'media' / 'Medium Size' and 'Large Size' parameters? Thanks!

Thanks for helping me with this, Tracy! :)

Chris,

You can increase the max size of the images by increasing some values in your
style.css
file.

Here they are. In "POST" section:

.post-content { max-width:740px;

And in "POST - Images" section:

.post-content img { max-width:115%;

Some notes about that. The "real" size of the images is based on both values above. If your screen is wide enough, then the post content is at its maximum of 740px, and the image is 115% of 740px... which is exactly 851px, I believe ;)

However, if you're going to increase these sizes, you should start from this one (placed in the beginning of your
style.css
file):

#wrapper { max-width:1280px; }

Just try and test until it works for you. Good luck :-)

The reason it maxes at 851 has to do, in all likelihood with the margin and padding settings in 'content'.

In order to display larger images, or to change the empty space at the left, you will have to go into the stylesheet and make some adjustments.

If you decide to do that, I suggest you keep track of the changes you make so that if something messes up you can go back to normal settings.

Following on from my previous question - I see that you tell us to go to 'settings', 'media', and there you can set max width's for 'medium' and 'large' sizes. But it's not clear to me how these are used. I just set 'medium' max width to 800, and 'large' max width to 1200 - but what next? I have linked to an image that is 1200 wide, but it still "maxes out" at 851 on the actual screen, when I make the screen very wide. I want to display an image that is about 1200 px wide. Thanks!
